Regional Networking Academy

In collaboration with the Cisco Systems corporation, the ComLab at the Institute of Communications Engineering of the University of Rostock is operating a Regional Networking Academy in the framework of the Cisco Networking Academy Program (CNAP). The aim is to offer a high-quality practice oriented education in the range of IP-based communication networks to students of the University of Rostock and other interested parties. Furthermore the Regional Networking Academy is attending to other Local Academies in Rostock, Wismar, Flensburg, Putbus, Berlin and Leipzig.

The Networking Academy is currently offering three very challenging courses: Basic Networking, Advanced Networking and Network Security. In these courses the participants get to know the planning, building, operating and maintaining of communication networks based on the Internet technology very practice oriented. The education is referring to IP LAN and WAN networks for companies, institutions and organisations up to a size of 500 nodes. Primary course topics are Routing (e.g. RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), Remote Access, Switching (e.g. VLANs, VTP, Trunking, Multicast), Troubleshooting and Router Security (e.g. Firewalling, AAA, IDS/IPS, VPN).

In case of a successful course graduation in the Networking Academy the participants are able to acquire the internationally accepted industry certificates CCNA, CCNP and Cisco Firewall Specialist.

The communicating of the course content is based on three fundamental pillars: an eLearning curriculum for computer based training (CBT) that is accessible over the Internet, lectures and demonstrations of the instructors of the Academy and a large number of case studies and labs on the topics of the education. To guarantee a practice oriented education the Neworking Academy owns a large network lab equipment, including e.g. different Routers and Switches, WAN emulators, Cisco PIX and VoIP technology. The devices are used by the participants for lab exercises during their education.

For students of the University of Rostock the courses are free of charge except for a service charge for the course material. For all other participants the offered courses are with costs. In case of a certification there are additional costs.
